7th Annual Lake George Polar Plunge For Special Olympics

Plunging into icy waters is an age-old tradition here in Lake George. On Saturday, November 16, 2013, that tradition continues at Shepard Park Beach with the Special Olympics Lake George Polar Plunge

PLEASE NOTE: This is a separate event from the annual New Years Day Polar Plunge Swim in Lake George

 

Freezin'...For What Reason?!

Hundreds of people take the plunge each year in Lake George and at different locations around the state to raise funds for the Special Olympics New York. These daring participants help by showing their support for the Special Olympics and raising money for the organization.
Many form teams and have fun with it. The goal is to get friends, family, colleagues and other donors to sponsor your plunge, ultimately raising thousands of dollars to help the Special Olympics reach their fundraising goal, which this year is the $1 million mark.
And a few...incentives, for those hesitant to dip their toes in the water. If a participant raises $100 to take the Plunge they'll receive an official Polar Plunge sweatshirt - and more incentives for higher fund-raising levels!

• Wear your swimsuit under your clothes
• Bring easy to get into warm clothes (and shoes!) for after the Plunge
• For your own safety, never dive into the water

Philip Andre "Mickey" Rourke, Jr. (born September 16, 1952) is an American actor, screenwriter and retired boxer, who has appeared primarily as a leading man in action, drama, and thriller films.

During the 1980s, Rourke starred in Diner, Rumble Fish, and the erotic drama 9½ Weeks, and received critical praise for his work in Barfly and Angel Heart. In 1991, Rourke, who had trained as a boxer in his early years, left acting and became a professional boxer for a period. He had supporting roles in several later films, including The Rainmaker, Buffalo '66, The Pledge, Get Carter, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Man on Fire.
In 2005, Rourke made his comeback in mainstream Hollywood circles with a lead role in Sin City, for which he won awards from the Chicago Film Critics Association, the Irish Film and Television Awards and the Online Film Critics Society. 4) John Sayles-Writer For Lonestar

A bright child, John Sayles began reading novels before age 9. A Williams grad in 1972, he shunned a corporate career to work various blue-collar jobs, moving to east Boston to take a factory job. He wrote stories and submitted them to various magazines, and the Atlantic Monthly gave him the idea of publishing them in a novel--thus "Pride of the Bimbos" (1975) was born.

In the late 1970s he worked for renowned low-budget producer Roger Corman as a screenwriter. He saved much of the money he earned from that job, got some friends together and made Return of the Secaucus Seven (1979) in 25 days. Altough it was a hit, he had trouble obtaining financing for the films he wanted to make because he would not give up his right of final cut. Baby It's You (1983) was Sayles' only film made under studio control.

In 1983 the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship granted him a tax-free income of $32,000 a year for 5 years. That stipend and money he earned for writing such films as The Clan of the Cave Bear (1986), Enormous Changes at the Last Minute (1983) and Breaking In (1989) enabled him to make the kinds of films he wanted to make. Lone Star (1996) placed Sayles in the ranks of top American filmmakers. Ann B. Davis made her debut in show business at age 6 earning $2.00 in a puppet show. At the University of Michigan, Anne planned to study medicine but got the acting bug from her brother who was the lead dancer in the national company of "Oklahoma" for over a year. Anne then spent six years in little theaters, stock companies, touring musicals, and such until she got her break as "Schultzie", the secretary on the "Bob Cummings Show." Born in Schnectady, New York, Leslie Silva was raised primarily in Saratoga, New York, but also lived in Connecticut, Iowa and Georgia, moving frequently because her father worked as a nuclear engineer. She appeared Off-Broadway in "Edmond" and starred as Helena in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. She has also worked in theater with Anna Deavere Smith, Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory and made her feature-film debut with a brief role as a process server in the romantic comedy Fools Rush In (1997).

Her wide eyes, expressive features and commanding presence make for an enviable appeal, and helped her land a regular role as Dr. Helen Reynolds on the hit NBC drama "Providence" (1999), less than four years after her professional stage debut. As a tough and uncompromising medico, Silva offered impressive work, her skillful portrayal nuanced enough to keep the character from treading into the two-dimensional stereotype of the hard-nosed and ambitious African-American woman all too familiar on contemporary television.

Born upstate New York to a set of French/Ukrainian parents, Michelle was hailed a performer just seconds after leaving the womb. An award-winning Writer, Director and Producer, Jim Jermanok wrote and produced "Passionada," a sophisticated romantic comedy that was released in over 120 American cities in summer- autumn, 2003. Michael J. Carnevale

Michael caught the acting bug after moving to South Florida in 1986, and working as an actor on various films like "Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise" (1987) and several episodes of: "Miami Vice" (1987).

After studying acting in different classes and workshops between Florida and Los Angeles, he moved to NYC to pursue a more formal education/training, enrolling in the Filmmaking program at New York University. Michael's thesis short film "The Case" (1990), {about a daydreaming student whose fantasies blur the line between reality and his imagination, injecting himself into his own noir detective story}, garnered him critical acclaim by faculty, and local reviewers.

Anthony Ferraro

Born and raised in Schenectady, New York Anthony holds an MA in Directing from The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London (RADA). In the 90's he co-produced several music videos for Caroline Record Company including Ben Folds Five, The DelRubio Triplets and several others. Academy Award-winner Maureen Stapleton was born June 21, 1925 in Troy, New York, to Irene (née Walsh) and John P. Stapleton. She moved to New York City at the age of eighteen and did modeling to pay the bills. Already a Tony Award-winner, she made her Academy Award-nominated film debut in Lonelyhearts (1958) supporting four-time Academy Award-nominee Montgomery Clift, and Myrna Loy in Lonelyhearts (1958). Maureen was was nominated for an Oscar again for her performance in Airport (1970). She played the wife of D. O. Guerrero (played by Academy Award-winner Van Heflin). Nine years later she went on to earn another Oscar for her performance as Diane Keaton, Kristen Griffith, and Mary Beth Hurt's mother-in-law Pearl, in the Woody Allen drama Interiors (1978). Apparently, four times worked as a charm when Maureen took the Oscar home for her performance in which she portrayed the Lithuanian-born anarchist Emma Goldman in Warren Beatty's Reds (1981).

She did not travel by air or elevator. She traveled by rail across the country, and traveled by ship across the ocean, instead of by plane.

Received the Actors Studio Award in 1980 for her contributions to the theatre.

5) Mary Nash

 

When her Hollywood career began in 1934, Mary Nash was already a veteran performer, having appeared in vaudeville and on Broadway. Following a brief appearance as a dancer in 1904, she joined Ethel Barrymore in a 1905 off- Broadway production, 'Alice-Sit-by-the-Fire'. This was followed by 'Captain Jinks' and 'The Silver Box' with the same company, and in 1915 she acted in George Bernard Shaw's play 'Major Barbara' at the Playhouse Theatre. The versatile actress was as adept at comedy ('Captain Applejack',1921-22) as she was in drama (Cassie in 'Uncle Tom's Cabin,1933).

She is best remembered on screen for being nasty to Shirley Temple in Heidi (1937) and The Little Princess (1939), and for playing Katharine Hepburn's elegant and proper society mother in The Philadelphia Story (1940). In addition, she gave excellent value-for-money in the role of Emma Louise in Come and Get It (1936) and as the ill-fated queen in the technicolor adventure Cobra Woman (1944). Mary Nash was briefly married to the actor José Ruben ((1888-1969).

Member of Tim Robbins' theatre company, The Actors' Gang, since 2004, Mary Eileen is a New Yorker trained in London at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After playing an extra in the movie Hair (1979) as a Central Park hippie, her first paid acting job on stage was with legendary mythologist Joseph Campbell and his dancer/choreographer wife, Jean Erdman. Erick's first production was organized, individually produced, and personally funded within 8 months, followed by four more film projects, including the feature film he also stars in, Loaded (2007/I), now available in stores and on line at Blockbuster and Netflix.

His decision to enter the film industry full time was made after he decided to make a clean break from corporate America and focus his business talents and creative energy in the film industry, as was his primary passion since 1986, when a casting director approached him and asked for a screen test, landing him the lead in a series of Pizza Hut commercials with Rich Hall .

Erick has also had several principal commercial roles, produced and appeared in several films shot from Los Angeles to Dallas, as well as appearing on "Prison Break"  (2005) as Agent Hara.

Producing seems to be the backbone of Erick's creative strengths as he's preparing to air two new original programs this spring, titled "Beyond the Velvet Rope" starring the Krupa Sisters Joanna Krupa and Marta Krupa, and "Critical Diagnosis" hosted by Leeza Gibbons. Most recently off the heels of shooting the 30-year reunion for the hit series "Dallas" (1978), and Larry Hagman, Erick's focus moving forward will most likely be producing, writing, and directing original works with his wife 'Julie J. Gosse'.

Erick looks forward to his Directorial film debut this summer in the collaborative script penned by he and his wife, Julie J. Gosse, titled "Trepidation".
